If you've never heard of the Lascaux Caves in Paris you should definitely check it out. These caves have been around for thousands of years and the drawings are murals inside are carbon dated to be created around 15,000 to 17,500 years ago. At the moment, there is a black fungus creeping in the caves and causing havoc. Scientists are not sure how to clear the caves of the fungus at the moment because even sending in scientists to treat the caves can raise the humidity levels and cause other damage. Right now the caves are sealed off in the hopes that the global warming will stop the damaging effects it is causing. This really bums me out because my husband and I are planning a trip to Paris next April and I really wanted to be able to tour the caves. Perhaps by then, access will have been granted once again. We can only keep our fingers crossed.
